The Student Chapter provides support for today’s students – the future industrial ecologists – to enter and collaborate with the International Society of Industrial Ecology. Not only that, it provides a space for students to interact with each other and with professionals and share resources, databases, and dissertations, among other things.
Today, students represent an important share of the ISIE membership. The offer of study courses and master’s and PhD programs related to industrial ecology is growing each year. You can find a list with industrial ecology related courses and programs here.
You automatically become a member when you register as a student member of ISIE. ISIE student members receive a discounted membership rate and discounted registration fees to ISIE conferences among other benefits.
You are highly encouraged to register as both a student member and as a member of one or more of ISIE's subject sections. Find out more about becoming a member of ISIE.
In what kind of activities is the Student Chapter involved?
ISIE's student members organize students’ events and meetings during the official ISIE and other IE related events – such as the ISIE biennial Conferences and the Gordon Research Conferences. The Student Chapter facilitates communication between students, researchers and practitioners and of course among the students. The ISIE Student Chapter has an elected board comprised of six international student members. The board members represent the students in the ISIE council, maintain this website, publish the students newsletter, and are all around nice folks.
What will I be doing as a student member?
The "formal" ISIE Student Chapter was initiated at the Gordon Conference in June 2002, thanks to the interest of the students, and the support of many. Due to the fact that students in the field of IE are dispersed around the world, there is a need for us to have a 'home' for communication among our peers. The Student Chapter was created due to the need to form a community for ourselves, to understand how broad of a field industrial ecology is, to share knowledge and resources and collaborate with each other on papers and projects, to hold discussions on topics, and very importantly, to have a place that provides networking.
In 2014 the Student Chapter was officially integrated into the ISIE, becoming formally a part of the Society. Student members benefit of a reduced membership fee, and can participate not only in the Student Chapter, but also in other chapters and sessions of the ISIE.
